For decades the paintball media, fans of the game, sponsors and others have followed closely the many off-season moves once the World Cup ends and the bidding wars, cuts, tryouts and additions begin. And like many years before it, this off-season proved to be a very active one.
This past December Dave Painter, co-founder of upTon 187 cRew, made official what many had heard at the end of the 2016 season—that the team was disbanding. Twelve years in the making and five years in the pro division was a nice run for upTon 187 cRew, one of the more underrated teams in the league. Eddie Painter (Dave’s son) will play the 2017 season with ac: Dallas. Max Traylor will play with Los Angeles Infamous this season as will Drew Templeton, formerly of Chicago Aftershock.
The rich get richer in 2017 as Edmonton Impact has picked up Brandon Cornell (formerly of Los Angeles Ironmen) and Dalton Vanderbyl from San Diego Dynasty. Ronnie Dizon moves from Chicago Aftershock to Houston Heat and he will be joined by Devon Stuart and Nico Hyde, who both spent last year playing with ac: Dallas. Brad McCurley has left Los Angeles Infamous and will play 2017 with ac: Dallas, who will be Empire Paintball’s premiere All In team this season.
Archie “Moneymaker” Montemayor will once again play this NXL season with San Antonio X-Factor and he’ll be joining the Toulouse TonTons to compete in the Millennium Series after a couple of excellent years with Breakout Spa in Europe. Houston Heat will not play the Millennium Series this year. Edmonton Impact will.
Stand by for more cuts, additions and moves. We’ll let you know when they happen. Buckle up your chinstrap, it’s going to be an interesting season.
