Orlando, Fla. – The paintball industry will be holding a Memorial Service, Thursday October 15th, at the NXL World Cup Presented by Kissimmee Sports for the creator and founder Bob Gurnsey who passed recently after a long battle with leukemia. The day will be designated as “Thank Gurns Day” with a Memorial Service at 5PM open to the public followed by a private industry-only VIP reception for manufacturers and field owners.
Attendees will have an opportunity for a 30 second “Thank You Gurns” to publicly say how their life was changed or impacted by paintball. Key historic memorabilia will also be auctioned off – details TBA .
Bob was credited with launching the entire paintball industry back in 1981 with his company the ”National Survival Game” headquartered in New London, NH. A billion-dollar industry ensued with manufacturers designing markers, clothing, goggles and tournaments for every level of play. From the 20 acre wooded playing fields to the current spectator friendly “speedball fields” with bleachers and bunkers, the game has withstood the test of time and remains a popular sport globally.
The World Cup is the Mecca for the paintball community and attracts over 3,000 competitors, from all over the world. The trade show is filled with the latest equipment and soft goods. According to Tom Cole, President of the National X-Ball league,” there are thousands of us who have been impacted by the sport of paintball in our lives. For some it’s just been an outdoor game they love and play often, for others it has been life-changing as they’ve developed teams or companies around Paintball.
